Brigitte BUXTORF : Flute

Brigitte BUXTORF

After obtaining the First Prize of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, Brigitte Buxtorf was a flute soloist with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, for six years. She then perfected her mastership of the instrument with Jean-Pierre Rampal, and obtained the third prize in the Geneva International Contest.
She is now devoted to a brilliant career as a soloist and in chamber music, in particular with her flute and harp duo. She also teaches the professional classes at the Conservatory of Lausanne.
Brigitte Buxtorf has interpreted the majority of the works of André Jolivet, who wrote of her that she is "one of the most gifted flautists, with exceptional musical talent, and genuinely convinced of the role of music."
She has made many recordings, within a flute and a harp duo, with pianoforte and with chamber orchestras.

The instruments :
C Flute - gold 14 ct - Jonathon Landell, U.S.A.

JOHANN SEBASTIEN BACH
The Goldberg Variations

Michel KIENER : Harpsichord

Michel Kiener received piano and harpsichord prizes of virtuosity in the classes of Louis Hiltbrand (1972) and Isabelle Nef (1975). He continued his studies in Amsterdam with Anneke Uittenbosch and Gustav Leonhardt. He has been a prize-winner at the international competitions in Geneva and Bruges. Since 1977, he is professor at the Conservatory of Geneva, while pursuing his activities as both a concert performer and an educator. He has given many concerts in Europe, Latin America and Asia. He plays a magnificent harpsichord made by William Dowd in Paris in 1978, modelled on an instrument made by N. Blanchet in 1730.
Michel Kiener interprets the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) on a Dowd harpsichord tuned according to the unequal system of Bach. Observe the authentic title of this work, printed circa 1741 by Balthasar Schmid in Nuremberg, according to the undated title page of the original edition : Clavier Übung...
This "Clavierübung" has been associated with the name of Johann Gottlieb Goldberg (1727-1756), probably a student of Bach, in the artistic and bibliographic laudatory appraisal of the composer...
The work begins with the Aria, a saraband in the form AABB like most of the pieces. After the thirtieth variation, a Quolibet, which links two popular songs, the Aria da Capo e Fine ends this greatest single opus of Bach for the harpsichord.
